Backpacking in North America
You can travel for months in this huge continent which is divided in three countries. The United States, Canada and Mexico. The United States and Canada are more economically better developed than Mexico which means you can find lots off different cultures and experiences in North America. Canada and The United States are both pretty similar on life standards, however the countries itself are pretty different. If you are looking for nature and quit empty places Canada has a lot to offer. If you are looking for the big and famous city’s The United States got some of the best ones. Mexico is a famous tourist place for residents from the United States. This means you will find a lot of tourist stuff in some of the bigger city’s. Like spring break in Cancun with lots of nightclubs and hotels. If you don’t like this Mexico has enough to offer to people who are willing to leave the beaten track. From beautiful islands to beautiful Aztec style temples.
So what do you need to know
In all three countries there is an extensive network of busses. In the United States you have greyhound who offers point to point tickets for good prices. There are also hundreds of domestic flights, which can be a good choice if you have to cover a lot of ground.
Like in every other country where you can go to make sure you check out the heath situation. If you are traveling to the United States make sure you health insurance covers all cost if you need metical treatment there. As health care is pretty expensive there we heard some stories of company’s not covering all costs on basic insurances.
In the United States most people only speaks English. As most people speak a bit English this shouldn’t be a problem, but if you not 100% sure just grab a phrase book.
